This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is creative and problem-solving to work in a workshop environment. The successful candidate will work with the workshop’s diverse and dynamic team from concept to production.

The role

What will you do

  • Build sets for WAAPA productions under the supervision of the workshop director and the technical agent, workshop.
  • Assist in monitoring students in the construction of sets under the direction of the Workshop Manager, Technical Manager, Workshop
  • Participate in the supply of materials for the construction of sets
  • Assist with rigging, flying, crewing and logistics for productions in accordance with the overall production plan
  • Work with external stakeholders, such as site technicians and operational staff, to ensure that bump-in/bump-out occurs efficiently and safely at external sites.
  • Assist in transporting and storing sets between performance venues and storage facilities.
  • General shop duties including assisting with equipment maintenance, maintaining work areas, identifying and rectifying safety hazards.
  • Supervise students in the workshop and ensure safety standards are adhered to at all times.

Key criteria

To be successful, you will have experience in a similar role and be able to demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

  • Work with students (have a genuine desire to help students)
  • Previous experience Construction of sets and materials
  • Previous experience working behind the scenes in various theaters (desirable)
  • Previous AutoCAD experience (desirable)
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm
  • Able to work in a team and individually under tight deadlines
  • Able to follow instructions from workshop foreman, workshop technical officer

Benefits & Compensation

This permanent, full-time position attracts a salary of $66,813 to $71,161 per year (HEW 4) plus 17% college pension contribution.
