PRINTING United Alliance today announced the appointment of industry veteran Bill Pope as Vice President of Technical Services. In this latest Alliance initiative to invest in and develop essential programs and services for members and the industry as a whole, Pope joins the association’s technology and research team. In this role, he will work closely with the newly merged Idealliance team, oversee the Alliance’s heavily used advisory services and rewards programs, as well as lead the Alliance’s educational initiatives, including the Continuous Improvement Conference and the Technical Association of Graphic Arts (TAGA).

Pope’s more than 30-year career in printing and packaging has focused on printing processes and excellence in graphic reproduction. His passion lies in improving and optimizing processes, new technologies and everything related to color. He has worked with large international packaging printing / converting organizations, and has also been instrumental in the educational and associative side of the industry. Pope presents frequently at conferences and industry events and is the author of numerous technical papers and articles for various journals and publications.

A former student of the RIT Printing Program, Pope also plays an advisory role to the RIT Graphic Media Science and Technology Department as Director of Industry Relations and Academic Programs and assists as an Assistant Member of the RIT. faculty. He helps lead RIT’s Industry Advisory Board, which is made up of leaders from various segments of the industry who strive to identify core competencies and develop the most relevant curriculum for students. Pope also strives to build strong relationships with industry partners in support of academic programs.

The printing industry has an identity problem that we must resolve. We need to find a way to attract young people into this exciting and thriving industry and educate them the best we can. And while this presents a great challenge, it also represents a great opportunity, one that I am confident we will take up and resolve with the good work we are prepared to do at PRINTING United Alliance.
