An Inverness-based engineering subsidiary is coming out of the Covid pandemic better, despite its impact on production.

National Asset Engineering Group Edwin James’ year-end report painted a positive picture of Highland-based Parker Technical Services, previously known as Korrie Technical Services and originally part of the Tulloch Construction Group. .

Its operations suffered a loss during the year due to the long and strict foreclosure period imposed. However, the impact was mitigated by being part of a larger group where performances held up strongly. The operation has been doing well since the start of the year and is on track for a return to growth in the current year with a strong forward backlog.

Commenting on the results, Robert Molloy, Executive Director, Parker Technical Services, Scotland North, said: “We have responded quickly to the pandemic and made the safety of our employees, our customers and the community a priority. large. The duration and severity of the lockdowns in Scotland created operational challenges, but the company has been able to support customers and their critical business assets, ranging from government and education to business, services public and defense.

“It has been a difficult year for us, but we are coming out of this unprecedented period in better shape. We have a talented and experienced team that we continue to develop with new investments in training and development through local apprenticeships and through our EJ Academy. Our backlog has never been stronger and we continue to focus on serving local communities and customers. “

Group-wide, Edwin James said in the last fiscal year sales fell 11% due to the pandemic while profits held up well.

However, after a string of contracts won, the company reports a record order book of over £ 500million and says it will create more than 100 jobs over the next two years.

Its EBITDA margin (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) also held up well at 5.3%, despite the operational restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, which demonstrated the resilient nature of the group.
